  • Our tillage practices aim to preserve soil health and reduce erosion.

No-till and Strip-till methods

Kanati has the equipment and manpower to perform tillage services for new and existing native plantings, cover crops and food plots. No-till and strip-till are two of many tillage methods landowner’s use to plant crops. In a no-till system, landowner’s plant directly into the undisturbed residue of the previous crop without tillage, except for nutrient injection. In a strip-till system for row crops, seeds are planted into narrow strips that can be tilled and fertilized. When compared with conventional or other conservation tillage methods, no-till/strip-till production can reduce soil erosion and sediment loss to water and wind which helps prevent sediment build up in bodies of water.

Maintaining greater residue on the surface also can:

  • Reduces soil temperature.
  • Adds organic matter to the soil as it decomposes.
  • Promotes microbial activity that builds soil structure & improves soil tilth.
  • Adds carbon & improves soil health.
  • Reduces soil compaction.
  • Develops root-channels and other near-surface voids increasing water infiltration and plant available moisture.
  • Reduces particulate emissions, improving air quality.
  • Requires less energy use & saves money through fewer inputs such as machine maintenance and fuel.
  • Provides food and escape cover for wildlife.

We can also recommend the appropriate equipment and train you on how to use and manage your own tillage systems.  Please contact us to learn more.
